Wild and Free part 1

“Staring at the moon will drive you crazy”

Somewhere along my Kundalini yoga training I recall this quote from Yogi Bhajan.  Perhaps as a result of it or perhaps anyway, I am not particularly drawn to the moon.

Either it is there or it’s not (the moon) so I don’t give it much consideration – other than of course on a Full Moon that is.  You would have to be on another planet not to recognize that things get lively, some people go a bit nutty and it can be hard to sleep – just ask any hotel manager or bar owner about their hotel lobby on the night of a full moon…

And yes the moon impacts the tides also of course.

Personally I am more drawn to the starry dark night sky, being able to view the brilliant stars and constellations.

Many equate the feminine to the moon, but me? Not so much. The moon pales in comparison to the sun, the sun is considered to represent the masculine. I don’t want to settle for a lesser star to represent me…

If each human has a masculine and feminine aspect (which they do), I would hold that then the solar aspect has to be relevant for both men and women, so I claim my rightful place under the sun and the dark starry night.

Dark Night Sky

If each human has a masculine and feminine aspect (which they do), I would hold that then the solar aspect has to be relevant for both men and women, so I claim my rightful place under the sun and the dark starry night.

All of life has the ebb and flow, action and passive like an in and out breath of life. The feminine is reflected in the dark sky, the dark earth, emotions, the flowing elements and the depth of understanding art and creativity.

The masculine is expressed in the mental aspect of logic and reason, form and structure – we all have this within us, we just express it to varying degrees..

Not all artists are female and not all mathematicians are male – case in point.  If you are aware that you have a left side (female) and a right side (male) to your body then it applies to you also, it is that simple… the right brain operates the left side of the body and the left brain operates the right side of the body – the key is to keep the bridge between both sides of the brain hemispheres active by using both sides – logic and intuitive, mental and emotional – both are intelligences.

Unfortunately men are discouraged from honoring their inner female/polarity as many think feminine expression is just expressing emotion and wearing dresses.  Men can resist that as they do not want to “become more feminine” thinking that the feminine equates to a dress, vulnerable and volatile emotions.

It does not. We do not,  We are not dresses and tears.

We as women are wired differently – we have the superhighways with the interconnecting streets where everything is connected (hence our ability to multitask), men have a two lane highway with separate boxes where the subjects never touch (hence the ability to focus)(many of us, not an absolute, but a decent generalization).

I recall from my Kundalini Yoga teacher training (somewhere in the many supporting books that I read) an insight from YB on the brain of female versus male children at birth.

The Yogis maintained that a male child’s brain received a type of an acid wash right before birth which deactivated the male child’s right brain activity so that the male would have the ability to put himself in dangerous scenarios without being hindered by the consideration of consequences. It was up to the male child as he grew older to actively seek things that would reactivate his creative right brain…

One day I was listening to a podcast. It was an interesting conversation with Mo Gawdat.  If you are not familiar with Mo – he was the chief business officer at Google X, he should know about logic – right? In the podcast he said one night he woke in the middle of the night and he heard his left brain (which is the logical brain that controls the right side of the body) say to him – “this is as far as I can take you.”

This sent Mo on a journey to understand and comprehend his right brain as he had reached the limit of his mental success, to grow even further he had to grow through the right brain. Not considering the gift of the other 50% of the matter in his head was no longer an option.

That other men may follow his path of curiosity and the world will be better for it.  True Kingship has to embody the left and right brain

So the attention flows to the right brain, the Feminine

In many places we are still stuck with modern society’s version of feminine.  Be it a pinup model, or a role, or the dark mother or breast implants, lipstick and a dress and in others an archaic version of what a woman is.

We are a lot more than that, both men and women.  And not only that, when our left side and right side of the brain harmonizes our entire being synchronizes – it is emotionally and spiritually profound and significant…

That is not what true Feminine is, of course.  That is like saying the costume is the actress, which it is not.

It has been a long time since society has held equal placement for men and women. I might have to go back to the ancient celtic races to come up with a time when women were truly equal to men in all aspects of life in ireland.

These were wild and free women and they were forces to be reckoned with…these Celtic Women and the Irish Goddesses.

To be continued…
